Reviews

Extracts from various blog reviews:
Clash is a gritty, tense and punchy novel which is far more than a cheap action read. Beneath the brutality, two human stories of guilt, anger, consequence, and redemption make Clash a fantastic novel that explores two different perspectives and manages to do both justice.

Never a dull moment and it never lagged.
Gritty, harsh and a little uncomfortable. But it’s a breath of fresh air.

I would recommend this to all YA fans who are looking for something exciting and little different

The writing never wavers in quality. This is one of those “important” books, it’s one that holds up a mirror to society and asks us what we’re doing to our kids and makes us think.

For me, the way Colin Mulhern has pulled off the violent, dark underworld of the fight-club but yet kept the warmth of desire for genuine friendship is utterly fabulous. One of the most moving books I’ve read in a long time.

It is a testament to Mr. Mulhern’s writing skill as to how he brings the strands in this spiderweb of a story together in a completely believable and low-key way.  It is understated yet the impact is huge.

Stark and brutal but the story has an elegance to it that really had me turning the pages.

…fast to read, dark and gritty.

Magazine reviews:

an uncompromisingly gritty reflection of modern society.

… a powerful, shocking and intense novel. Mulhern delivers the story like one of Alex’s punches – his style is direct and raw.

This book doesn’t pull any punches and gets the reader right inside the minds of these teenagers. An author to be watched!

Impressive urban fare, gritty and bittersweet combined.

Clash Trailer

I did a trailer for this on Youtube just before its release. Not bad considering I did it in my son’s bedroom with him and his mate hanging over the bed, watching me:

COVER BLURB

ALEX: Underground cage fighter, school psycho
KYLE: Talented artist, classroom joker
When these two clash, a catastrophic sequence of events unfolds . . .

“Clash is like a hard punch in the guts – in a good way!
Mulhern is definitely the next name in tense, gritty teenage fiction.”
Anthony McGowan.
